Dubai is the second largest of the seven Emirates in the UAE and lies about 3,452 miles south-east of London, 4,967 miles west of Tokyo, and 7,451 miles west of Sydney.
On the shores of the beautiful Arabian Gulf, Dubai is a city state desert, replete with clean, sandy beaches and clear, blue-green waters. It has an ancient Islamic heritage that survives amidst the skyscrapers and highways of a modern, cosmopolitan city of almost 1.4 million people. This 'Pearl of the Arabian Gulf', concentrated mainly on its exquisite creek, the finest natural shelter in 1600km (1000 miles) of coastline, ranks as the United Arab Emirates most important port and commercial centre.
The city is served by Dubai International Airport (DXB) hosting the world’s largest duty free shopping area, which is situated in the central north part of the city itself and provides regular flights to and from the UK, Australia, America, Asia and Europe and also including local flights to and from Doha, Bahrain and Muscat.
With the capital of the UAE – Abu Dhabi, only one hour from Dubai, there are plenty of attractions to choose when visiting the city.
With great underwater visibility and lots of sea life, snorkelling is a popular pastime in Dubai, as is quad biking in the desert, camel riding, deep sea fishing and windsurfing. With a number of challenging golf courses, some with gorgeous views of the Creek, and the desert, there is plenty of choice in Dubai for the avid golfer.
With over five large shopping malls in Dubai, there are a large variety of shops to choose from. Shoppers can find the best in designer labels and some fantastic bargains. Nearby is Mall of the Emirates, Dubai's premier shopping, dining and entertainment zone. There are local souks for those who do not wish to go to the malls, which offer local merchandise ranging from clothes and fabrics to regional food and fruit, woodcarvings and handicrafts.
